John, I love this! It reminded me of one of my own experiences. I used to make sandwiches for the homeless every Friday when I was in Highschool. Early on I met a women named Mary who had two cats and sat at the corner of Stockton and Grant where now there is a Starbucks; back then it was a vacant space. The day we met I offered her a sandwich and she declined, but asked if I would sit and talk to her. I did. She told me that she sometimes forgot the sound of her voice and would speak out loud to herself to remind her that she still had one. I visited Mary for sometime on that corner and then one day she was no longer there. I have no idea what happened to Mary, but she taught me something I have not forgotten. She taught me that the homeless are human beings. I loved what you added to this article. See you Saturday!

I like this photo. Something is obviously weighing on him. You captured it, froze it in black and white, in shadow. What could he be looking off to? Does he miss someone, or perhaps he misses a time long ago, never to be recaptured?

Maybe he is concerned about the future, worried something he must do.

Or, perhaps this is the greatest day of his life, and he is trying to take it all in, overcome with wonderful disbelief--because on this day his life changed for the better in ways he could never have imagined.
